Sustainability is a field that is important to me for creating a better future for humans and the planet. It is a main topic in lots of work I am interested in, like Edward Burtynsky or Subhankar Banerjee, but I wanted to apply my knowledge and interest to fashion. I love style and always grew up flipping through the pages of Vogue. Combining these two interests led to examining how people can get outfits of all different kinds everyday to high fashion looks by shopping secondhand. By having my friends and myself all model against the same backdrop I was able to keep a similar theme and look at my photos. In Photoshop I designed the images to look like magazine pages, from a cover to an ad. The goal was to promote secondhand shopping/thrifting for clothing. My work starts to address how fast fashion is a big issue for a sustainable future. I hope that after viewing my work people will consider next time that they need a new outfit or accessory that they will try their local thrift store first.
